A patient attends for routine assessment or screening and reports no central visual symptoms. Macular OCT is performed as part of the protocol, or to exclude maculopathy before starting treatment. Scans like this also arise in monitoring the fellow eye, and in patients whose symptoms turn out to have another explanation.

- Normal central acuity. No macular thickening, haemorrhage or exudate.
